ABOUT BRITTANY SHEARER
Brittany Shearer is an alumna of Norfolk Public Schools, the Virginia Community College System, and two outstanding public universities in Virginia. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Government at the University of Virginia, then pursued her M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership at Old Dominion University. She currently works as an Academic Advisor in ODU’s College of Sciences in order to help students adjust to college academic expectations and determine the steps they need to take to reach their professional goals.
Brittany is committed to accessible, quality public education. Her mother is a Virginia Beach Public Schools teacher and instilled in Brittany a love of learning and an understanding of the need for meaningful student contact from pre-school through high school and beyond.
Brittany’s experience in education includes research on student development, facilitating a course on issues of diversity, tutoring English language learners, and serving as the co-chair of the Old Dominion Advising Network, which aims to improve the quality of faculty-student interactions in college. She is member of the UVA Young Alumni Council, and recently completed her Master Advisor certification at ODU, demonstrating competence in advising diverse student populations.
Brittany has lived in Camellia Shores, Northside, and Ghent, but now resides in the Belvedere neighborhood of Norfolk.
